Tailoring Elegance for the Hurd Residence in Upper Arlington
In the heart of an historic Upper Arlington neighborhood, the Hurds embarked on a journey to transform their newly built home into a personalized haven. Tasked with several projects, they enlisted A Carpenter’s Son to bring our touch to their space, a home meticulously designed by Behal, Sampson & Dietz Architects, with interior design curated by David M. Berg.
Dining Table: A Story in Claro Walnut
The focal point of the Hurd dining area became a unique dining table crafted from a single piece of claro walnut, an American exotic tree native to the Sacramento area. To track down this hard-to-find wood known for its rich tones and extraordinary grain patterns, we met up with our clients in Cincinnati, Ohio at M. Bohlke Lumber, one of North America’s premier wood suppliers.
We loved our clients’ choice in juxtaposing the custom-cast stone pedestal base with the elegant details of the walnut tabletop, like the rounded bullnose edge. This dynamic duo really pops in their space and is sure to be a conversation piece for years to come.
Bar: Harmonizing Form and Function
Not to be outdone, their walnut bar with a matching backsplash really shines. With all parts made from a single slab of locally sourced walnut, the clean design and warmth of the wood really add something special to their space and is the perfect place to treat their guests with a beverage through the passthrough ledge. We didn’t miss any details to make this extra special, from the custom cove edges to the custom under-mount sink.
